LITTLEOAK FAQs
Goat milk is generally gentler on babies' tummies than cow's milk, and has been known to ease constipation for several reasons. Goat milk naturally contains A2 casein protein — with less than half the A1 casein found in cow's milk. In many babies (and adults), A1 protein can trigger digestive issues including bloating, constipation, wind, and discomfort. Goat milk is also lower in lactose than cow's milk, and contains naturally occurring oligosaccharides (prebiotics) that support healthy digestion. If you're transitioning from breastmilk or another formula, it's normal for babies to experience some temporary gas or constipation for up to two weeks while they adjust.
While LittleOak is not certified organic, the fresh whole goat milk we use is farmed using organic practices — free from GMOs, pesticides, and growth hormones, and produced using environmentally sustainable methods. New Zealand's farming practices are naturally aligned with organic standards, and many of LittleOak's farms choose not to pursue formal certification simply because of the process involved rather than any difference in how they farm. All of LittleOak's ingredients are as naturally and sustainably sourced as possible.
LittleOak always recommend transitioning slowly, whether you're moving from breastfeeding or switching from another brand of formula. Changing too quickly can cause temporary discomfort to your baby's developing digestive system. You can read the LittleOak Transition Guide here.
No. LittleOak do not add any artificial sugars or sweeteners to their blends. LittleOak's beautifully natural goat milk simply doesn't need them, and they have no interest in introducing infants and toddlers to unnecessary sugars.
Cold-pressed olive oil is naturally rich in oleic acid — the most abundant fatty acid found in breast milk — making it an incredible, natural upgrade for LittleOak's formula. Unlike high-oleic sunflower oil (which also contains oleic acid but is more heavily processed), cold-pressed olive oil retains its naturally occurring plant polyphenols, which are beneficial antioxidants that provide superior nutrition. Blending it into LittleOak makes this formula even closer to breast milk composition than ever before — a genuine world first in infant formula.
Beyond the well-known environmental concerns around deforestation, palm oil inhibits the absorption of calcium, fats, and DHA in babies — which is reason enough to avoid it entirely. LittleOak is proud to be the first infant formula in the world to be certified 100% palm oil free by the Palm Oil Free Certification Accreditation Programme (POFCAP). This certification goes beyond labelling — it verifies that no palm oil derivatives are present in our formula.
Baby formulas need a blend of oils to replicate the essential fatty acids found in breast milk, which are critical for nervous system development. Rather than using cheap, heavily processed oils like canola or palm oil, LittleOak uses a proprietary blend of cold-pressed olive oil, cold-pressed coconut oil, cold-pressed flaxseed oil, and sunflower oil.
Cold-pressed flaxseed oil — sourced from New Zealand's South Island — is one of nature's richest plant sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which supports normal blood cholesterol levels and immune function. It also provides plant-based protein to support muscle, bone, and tissue development. Cold-pressed olive oil brings oleic acid and natural polyphenol antioxidants, making our formula even closer to the composition of breast milk. Together, this oil blend delivers the fatty acid profile your baby needs — without shortcuts.
A lot. Every can of LittleOak starts with nearly three litres of fresh whole goat milk from their New Zealand farm — not with pre-dried powders like most other formulas. LittleOak's "From Fresh" process is a world-first: they spray-dry their milk only once, preserving the natural nutrition that gets stripped out when milk is processed multiple times. Think of it like cold-pressed juice versus reconstituted fruit drink — the difference is real.
LittleOak's stage recommendations are based on your baby's nutritional needs at each age: Stage 1 is for 0–6 months, Stage 2 for 6–12 months, and Stage 3 for 12 months and beyond. That said, Stage 1 Infant Formula is also fine to continue using up to 12 months of age if that suits your baby.
LittleOak recommend using the formula powder within 30 days of opening. If stored properly in a cool, dry place with a dry scoop, it can last up to 60 days. Always check the best-before date on the tin or sachet before use.
No, as LittleOak formula is made from a milk base, freezing the powder is not recommended.
